My Resume

If you’re looking for somebody who can inspire a team, make long hours fun, and create real differentiation in a marketplace, then I am your man. I’m a marketing professional who values results over awards. I have worked on every kind of account, from CPG to semiconductors, bikes to golf, concierge services to technology training. I have managed people and processes, been a company spokesperson, evangelist, teacher, and speechwriter.

Some of my proven skills include: Brand Marketing, Marketing Communications Management, Marketing Copywriting, Advertising Copywriting, Web Content Management, Web Content Writing, Creative Direction, Budgeting, Vendor Management, Blogging, Public Speaking, Presentations, Speech Writing, Instruction, Mentoring, Lead Generation, Event Marketing, Brand Strategy, Elevator Pitches, Corporate Positioning, and Equity Stories.

Specialties
My specialties are developing creative and brand strategies for companies of all sizes; as well as managing and inspiring creative teams to deliver excellent results. I am also an award-winning copywriter and creative director, so I have the ability to develop strategy and then execute on it.

Experience
Writer, Roper, Wrangler, Cowboy-Creative
While looking for the right position, I consult with a number of companies in vastly different industries— the health industry, higher education, a program to train and support childcare providers, energy engineering companies, luxury travel, and just about every kind of technology out there. My clients have included Webroot (SaaS security software), Samsung Printers, Symplified (single sign-on), XOJET (private aviation), Palo Alto Medical Foundation and Wyoming e-Health Initiative, American Golf Corporation and American Golf Country Clubs, several boutique wineries, Borax and Purex (laundry), the Berkeley-Columbia Joint Executive MBA program and Western Technical College (education), the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, Hilton Hotels, dental practices, and several startups. As you can see from these clients and those below, I can market pretty much anything and do so convincingly. I was voted one of the three best presentations at Ignite Boulder 16.

Creative DirectorWebroot Software
When the CMO needed to create a ruckus in the security software marketplace, he turned to me. Together we developed new creative strategies and plans for both consumer and business product lines. In order to launch all new marketing communications, point-of-sale, and packaging materials within 6 weeks, I managed multiple design firms plus an ad agency. The combination of new branding materials increased organic traffic to the website by 70%. At the same time I spearheaded and championed the Social Media Sobriety Test, which received more than 120 minutes of broadcast coverage in 173 countries, with more than 1,000 press hits (including a mention on Jimmy Kimmel Live). I was also responsible for a quarterly budget of $1.2 million and managed to it.

Director of Marketing CommunicationsInveneo
I wanted to do something meaningful, so I found a nonprofit that played to my passions: the Inveneo team. Six months later I found myself in refugee camps in northern Uganda, where I photographed, videotaped, and interviewed people impacted by the communications technology Inveneo provided. The result was a brochure for The Clinton Global Initiative and a Blurb book called, “Picturing Hope” that we used as an emotional sales piece.

Advertising LecturerSan Jose State University
Part of my effort to do something meaningful included sharing my love of writing, advertising, and marketing with students at SJSU. My passion must have been contagious as I scored very high in reviews from both students and faculty and was invited back when budgets allowed.

Creative DirectorWyse Technology
When the VP of Marketing hired me, he told me that I had 12 weeks to reposition the company along the lines of Thomas Friedman’s book “The World Is Flat” and drive all graphics and messages for a corporate relaunch. A year later I took this visionary positioning and made it more practical for the sales teams. I also managed a lead-generation and nurturing program that generated an 8X ROI.

Senior Copywriter, Creative Strategist, JWT Technology
As senior copywriter, my speculative work brought in several multi-million dollar accounts, including CSC and NCR. Other clients included Mercury Interactive, Avant!, Fujitsu, Healtheon, Siebel Systems, Panasonic, VTech, Citrix, and Riverbed. I also played a significant role in redefining the creative brief process (which I later taught at San Jose State University).

Creative Director and Creative Evangelist, Radius, Inc.
Initially I was hired to manage the creative services group, but quickly saw an opportunity to rebrand Radius from a Mac display company to the leading provider of digital media performance tools for creative professionals. I managed the creation of new literature and packaging, as well as the tradeshows/events and PR departments. I also wrote executive speeches, including a keynote for MacWorld Boston. Additionally, I developed the creative evangelist program, working with Art Center, Disney Studios, the American Film Institute, the Kodak Institute, and others while presenting as part of an AdWeek tour.

President and Creative DirectorJordan/Yama Advertising
Frustrated by the quality of advertising and marketing work being done in Silicon Valley, I founded, managed, and ran a successful, award-winning, boutique advertising agency that grew to $6 million in billings. Clients included Sierra Designs, Everex, Yokota Cycles, and dozens of others.
